John Rex Reeves was born and raised in Panola County,
Texas. He grew up listening to country music on the Louisiana Hayride
in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was first inspired by Hank Williams
and later by his uncle, the late and great Jim Reeves. After graduating
from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas with a BS
degree, he served in the U.S. Army as a member of the White House Staff
and performed as a singer whenever the opportunity occurred.
John Rex worked for Nabisco and did music on the side for many years until
he retired. Then he went full time music. He is married and
has two sons, Scott and Jim, and two lovely grandchildren, Melissa, 9 and
Travis, 7 and daughter-in-law, Adriana. The whole family lives in
the Houston, Texas area. Both of his sons are talented toward music
but have yet to take up the legacy. John Rex’s big passion is to
keep the musical legacy alive as long possible and hopes that it will be
continued by a member of the Reeves family.
John Rex has a getaway in the piney woods
of East Texas where he, family and friends gather to indulge in food, fun,
music, and a sporting clay tournament (once a year). Since he grew
up hunting and fishing, he built a nice two-acre pond where the grandkids
and friends can fish to their heart’s content. One of his favorite
pleasures in life was duck hunting, and he had three beautiful dogs years
ago that he loved dearly. When time permits, he hopes to have one
more Labrador that he can walk in the woods and enjoy the outdoors where
East Texas is full of heavy timber, native streams, and beautiful valleys.
His national chart records include When Baby Holds Me,
When We’re Together, What Would You Do, and You’re the Reason, just to
name a few. John Rex has recorded seven albums and his popularity
continues to grow. He has toured England, Scotland, Norway and Australia
where he performed to sell-out audiences. He has appeared on several
television shows and is in constant demand to appear at fairs, concerts
and clubs. The John Rex Reeves Pickin’ Party, held during The Texas
Country Music Hall of Fame induction weekend in Carthage, Texas, was originally
produced and hosted by him for about five years. John
Rex appeared at the world renowned Tamworth Country Music Festival in Tamworth,
Australia during January, 2007 and was invited to return in 2009.
He worked various other venues while in Australia.
Beginning in April, 2005, he began doing The Jim Reeves Tribute Show in Branson, Missouri and had the pleasure of entertaining thousands of country music fans from every state in the U.S. and some from abroad. It proved that Jim Reeves still, after 46 years, has many fans. That show was one of the most successful new shows in Branson. John has continued on with this for five years but has decided not go back this year, because he wants to do other things.
John Rex can be seen as a regular on the Midwest Country Show on RFD TV which is on Saturday evenings at 7:30. He will be doing the Jim Reeves Tribute Show in Henderson, Texas on July 31, 2010.
John Rex has an easy-going personality and loves to meet
as many fans as possible. He says the fan is the most important part
of his career. With his love for country music and his extraordinary
talent, his shows are done in a most professional manner.
